The military on Saturday deployed naval and air assets to the West Philippine Sea to rescue 10 Filipino crew members of a stranded fishing boat.

A certain “Rubin” called for help Thursday after their motor banca, 3 Sisters, encountered engine trouble east of Recto Bank, 1Lt. Cherryl Tindog, Armed Forces Western Command public affairs chief, said.

The command dispatched a Navy vessel to rescue the fishermen. The ship was on its way to the area as of Saturday, Tindog said.

A Nomad plane of the Air Force also proceeded to the area to drop food, water, medicine, and clothes for the fishermen while they wait for the Navy vessel, she said. (John Roson)
